SunRocket Crashed

SunRocket is Adrift; Out of Business

About mid-July 2007, SunRocket, the second largest VoIP company, suddenly laid off employees, stopped taking new customers, and closed down their customer service phone line. With no warning and no official announcement, SunRocket drifted away. For existing customers, phone service continued through July but has been sporadic. As of this writing, some customers appear to still have good outgoing phone service but calls to some area codes do not seen to ever complete. Incoming service has been more sporadic. Other customers seem to have lost their service. It's not clear that SunRocket voice mail has been working at all.

At Persimmon Telecommunications, you are offered the BEST plans in the industry for your personal and/or business needs. You may go directly to a list of alternative VoIP services. Below we give suggestions for how SunRocket customers can best proceed.

News Article Here is a New York Times news article that appeared on SunRocket's demise on July 17:

What To Do If you are an existing SunRocket customer, what should you do?

If you want to keep your number, you must act quickly. To port your number to another carrier, you will probably need proof that the number is currently yours. So that you can prove ownership of your SunRocket phone number, immediately go to https://www.sunrocket.com/members/login/autoLogin.do and print out your last invoice (or Account Summary page) and the Numbers page that shows your number(s). This will probably be required to port your number(s) to any other carrier. SunRocket's site may not be up much longer so do not hesitate - print this info out immediately.

If you are still using SunRocket and expect incoming calls, you are probably best off if you log onto your SunRocket account and forward all incoming calls to some other number. You could use any USA number, for example, a cell phone number, a land line number or a voice mail number. You can obtain inexpensive voice mail numbers by using a fax number obtained from the fax services listed on Persimmon Telecommunications home page.

Alternative VoIP Options Although there was initially a flurry of activity by other VoIP companies offering such things as a buy out of one's SunRocket contract, these offers have subsided. The best thing at this point is to study each company's offerings and sign-up for the one whose offerings best match your needs. See Shop For, Compare, Choose and Buy VoIP Service to determine the most cost effective service for your requirements.
